Welcome to my first ever blog on Wheelz Up Sports!

After years of teetering on the idea of blogging, I have decided to give it a go and share my thoughts on sports with the world. I have dabbled in sports podcasting in the past and loved every second of it. Ultimately, it would be great to sneak back into it, but for now, my attack will be launched via written word.

From creating sports podcasts and YouTube channels to launching this new blog, there is no doubt that it has a huge impact on my life. It is my passion. It is my escape. It is my peace. The beauty of sport is that in one moment, it can generate the most incredible feelings of euphoria and in the next it can break you into a million pieces. It is so beautifully volatile. It is a feeling so magical, that I decided to get a degree in Sport Management and surround myself with it for the rest of my life.

Building a career in the sports world has been an incredible challenge. It is a very competitive field and all who enter it feel very similar to me. All feel enough of that passion to go ahead and engulf their lives in it forever, and the drive to make it in the industry is extremely intense. Like most employees currently in the industry (and undoubtably like the ones before us who surely did the same), I started at the bottom.

And I mean THE BOTTOM. Minor League Baseball.

My journey started with doing the hot dog race at minor league baseball games for an entire season. From that point, I built more and more connections and paved my way into higher positions within the industry. It has been an interesting journey and a grueling one too, but hard work pays off.

That is my mentality with everything I tackle, and it will be my attitude with this blog as well. I am no genius or anything, but I am rather a simple man with an undying love for my teams. It is my passion to support my teams and share my opinions on them with the world.

You may not agree with my takes, and not only is that okay, but it is more than welcome! It is one of the few topics of conversation on this planet that can be consistently inconsistent. Opinions change on a daily basis (an hourly basis if you are from the great land of New York).

Now when it comes to people like Skip Bayless or Stephen A. Smith, who intentionally lure people into anger with the same cadence and efficiency of the sirens that lure sailors to their death, I believe that sports talk should be natural. Staged reactions and intentional freakouts have kind of ruined sports media and I often feel like I am in the minority for believing this.

Crafting unbelievably cold takes just to go viral and generate buzz is inorganic. Staging disagreements is not the way. That will not happen here. I welcome comments and discussions from members of all fan bases because we are all in love with our own teams and the players who entertain us on a nightly basis, and there should always be a level of respect for sharing that interest.

Now with the basic intro to myself and the site covered, let’s get down to brass tacks and outline what you may be interested in knowing. Below is a list of the teams I allocate my love to:

  • MLB – New York Mets
  • NHL – New York Rangers
  • NFL – New York Giants
  • NBA – New York Knicks
  • NCAAF – Texas Longhorns

So much heartbreak on one list. So much pain and devastation to unravel when I describe my fandoms of each team. The Giants brought me to the mountaintop twice and immediately followed it up with 12 years of trash. For as bad as it has been for over a decade now, we have had minor success with a couple playoff appearances and the rapid tenure of OBJ as our brightest spots. But the biggest thing we got going for us? At least we aren’t the Jets!

As for my other teams, it has been a whole lot of darkness but it’s the high moments that keep me going. The Knicks and Rangers simultaneously crushing their way through multiple playoff series’ last year will live with me forever. The Longhorns recent successes and Manning-filled future has me more excited than I ever have been to watch them. And the Mets…oh my precious Metsies.

From taxi accidents to spinal stenosis to wild boars and even hand, foot and mouth disease, there is no shortage of heartbreak with this team. But seasons like 2024 undo so much of that. With the excitement of “OMG” and a Latin popstar playing 2B every day while hitting over .330, and the emergence of a hero in the form of a fat purple fast-food monster, the late season fireworks and clutch moments just seemed like a perfect fit for the story. It will forever be a legendary season that will never be forgotten. I love this team. I love all my teams. And that will become more and more apparent to you all in due time.

Welcome to the blog and enjoy the ride!
